Belsize Conservation Area Advisory Committee

Camden has a duty under the Planning (Listed Building and Conservation Areas) Act 1990 to designate as conservation areas any “areas of special architectural or historic interest, the character or appearance of which it is desirable to preserve or enhance”.

The Belsize Conservation Area Advisory Committee (BCAAC)'s role is to advise them on planning applications and environmental and traffic issues in three conservation areas - Belsize, Parkhill & Upper Park and Elsworthy.

We are a group of nine resident volunteers with local knowledge and professional expertise. The committee is official but not statutory. Please contact us if you are interested in joining.

We examine all the planning applications in each of our three areas, visit the sites and refer our comments to Camden's planning department. The applications and our comments can be viewed on the Council's online planning portal here. Type in the address, or the application number if you know it, click search, click on the application number and go to “View related documents”.

Sometimes we mount specific campaigns, such as the saving and restoration of Hampstead Town Hall, in co-operation with other local amenity associations like the Belsize Society and the Heath and Hampstead Society.
